Hi, my name is Lucy and I’m Lara’s Psychiatric Service Dog in Training. She struggles with challenges due to anxiety, ADHD, and autism, and my job is to help decrease anxiety and keep her calm, grounded, present, and on task.
The tasks I’m being trained to do are:
- Interrupt Lara when I can see she’s very anxious and help her stay calm.
- Create personal space when she’s feeling anxious.
- Provide deep pressure therapy when she’s overwhelmed.
- Provide grounding through physical contact.
- Make sure she is taking care of herself by bringing Lara her medication.
The training that helps me to behave well in public includes:
- Puppy school course
- KUSA CGC Puppy certification
- KUSA CGC Bronze certification
Since I’m still in training I might still make some mistakes, like forgetting to wait patiently and being distracted by things that I’m still learning to ignore. If I show bad manners, Lara and I will leave until I remember my good manners.
Thank you for allowing us to be a team and for letting me help Lara with her challenges.
With gratitude,
Lucy
